Garrett A. Hartzog is the Principal of Fundamental Advisory and Consulting, LLC.
For over two decades, Garrett has applied his blend of creativity and practicality to tackling challenges in the world of financial services, the mortgage industry, public policy, and beyond.
A true polymath and a problem-solver at heart, Garrett is able to provide significant value in any situation where insight, clarity, and results are needed.
Prior to founding Fundamental, Garrett was a Director at Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation, spending time in both Product Development and Government Relations, as well as the Treasurer of MGIC-PAC. While at MGIC, he worked directly with customers, trade associations, regulators, and members of Congress and their staff. Among his accomplishments were creating a structured transactions channel to insure seasoned loans on a bulk basis, and a rating agency engagement strategy that resulted in Moody’s updating their RMBS criteria to provide credit for mortgage insurance.
Garrett previously served as a Senior Policy Analyst at the Federal Housing Finance Agency within the Office of Housing and Regulatory Policy. His career also includes time as a Vice President in Bank of America’s Legacy Asset Servicing segment where he dealt with representation & warranty disputes arising out of mortgages originated by Bank of America and Countywide. He also held a variety of roles at PMI Mortgage Insurance Company.
His educational background includes a Master of International Business Studies from the University of South Carolina where he also spent time working overseas, and a BSBA from Georgetown University with a major in Finance and minors in Computer Science and Theology.
Why the musical instrument motif?
One reason is that making music is one of my primary hobbies, which leads into the second reason.
With the onset of video chatting as a normal part of business culture, your home became your backdrop. In my case, the camera on my computer was directly pointed at my double bass.
Since my double bass was a constant presence in my work life, I decided to include a nod not just to it, but to some of the instruments I enjoy playing.
Music was also the source of the inspiration for the name of Fundamental Advisory and Consulting, LLC.
